Three flint flakes/tools, all made from a light grey flint which has some white patches. Left- Sub-triangular in plan, all the corners are rounded. There is some possible retouch along the edges. This is a blade, probably late Mesolithic in date. Middle- Irregular shaped fragment with one rounded edge. This is most likely to be a flake of early Neolithic date. Right- Late Mesolithic blade, the upper end is pointed and has been retouched on both sides of this point. There is a median ridge running the length of the blade.

Three flint tools/flakes. Left- A light brown/orange material. It is possibly a late Neolithic tranchet arrowhead. Sub-triangular in plan with the two upper sides being slightly concave and a median ridge on each point from the centre. Middle- Grey material which fades from a dark to a light shade from top to bottom. Irregular in plan with one curved edge. Possibly a late Neolithic- Early Bronze Age scraper. Right- Light grey material. This is most likely debitage but could have been re-used to form a scraper. It is difficult to see the detail from the image

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Isle of Wight

An incomplete flint blade of probable late Mesolithic to early Neolithic date (6500 BC - 2900 BC). The implement is in the form of a long tertiary blade, sub-rectangular in plan with a transverse break at the distal end. The ventral surface has a bulb of percussion with a large scar at the proximal end. Waved ripples are present on this surface but are barely discernable. The dorsal surface has three major longitudinal removals. It is unclear as to which direction the removals were struck. There is no retouch or modification to form a tool. The matt surfaces vary in colour and ar…

An incomplete flint implement of probable late Mesolithic to early Neolithic date (6500 BC - 2900 BC). The implement is in the form of a long tertiary blade, sub-rectangular in plan. The ventral surface has no bulb of percussion at the proximal end as it has been lost due to a transverse break. However, the ends of the bulb scars are extant. Waved ripples are present on this surface but are barely discernable. The dorsal surface has two major longitudinal removals and some other smaller ones. Both of the major removals have been struck from the proximal end. At the proximal end of t…

A complete flint implement of probable late Mesolithic to early Neolithic date (6500 BC - 2900 BC). The implement is in the form of a long secondary blade, sub-rectangular in plan. The ventral surface has an indistinct bulb of percussion at the proximal end with associated waved ripples covering most of the remaining surface. The dorsal surface has three major longitudinal removals and some other smaller ones. The larger removals have been struck from the proximal end and one minor removal has been struck from the distal end. The left side (as viewed) has been retouched. At the d…
