A very fine piece of Anglo-Saxon metal work. The object is an almost complete cast copper alloy gilded object which appears to be a harness mount. It is decorated in Anglo-Saxon Style I and dates to the sixth century. The function of the object is not altogether clear, but the double lugs would imply that this object is a harness mount and was attached to a secondary object. The object is rectangular and flares slightly at the terminal. The attachment end features the double lugs, which are set at a 90° angle to the main plate. One of the lugs is damaged, both are pierced. The plate …

The rove and end caps my have been decorated, but the surface is heavil…

A decorated copper alloy strip, possibly one arm of a pair tweezers, but probably post medieval in date. It tapers slightly from one end where there is a small plain knop. It is not clear whether this is a terminal or not. The rest of the strip is decorated with a pattern of closely scored diagonal lines. The reverse is flat and plain. It is bent and measures 30mm long, 6mm wide, and 1.7mm thick. It weighs 2.09gm. If straight it would be about 50mm long. The shank is divided into three distinct areas by different decorative mouldings. The upper part near the loop is rectangular in cross-section and flares towards the lower end. There is a small transverse ridge at the top on the front below which is a triangular cell filled wioth…

A fragment of an iron unidentified object. It is 21.3mm long, 15.2mm wide, and 9.4mm thick. It weighs 3.73gm. The object consists of a broken piece of a rectangular (?) plate which has a raised rim along one long edge and which is decorated by two raised wavy or zig zag lines along the centre. At the more complete end there is an end piece at right angles to the plate, so the whole forms a corner, but the end piece is concave. There would also have been side pieces those these are almost complete missing. The metal is corroded but stable. There is no evidence of attachment. A late med…
