Description: Roman gold finger ring, much bent and distorted but largely intact. The hoop comprises a plain circular strip of gold, on top of which has been soldered an overlay of decorative filigree wire, four bands of twisted wire alternating with three bands of plain. The hoop has been soldered to the back of an ovoid bezel, with the ends of the hoop flattened and splayed; the bezel consists of a separate piece of sheet gold with similar applied filigree ornament of alternating plain and twisted wire. Medieval (1350-1500) cast copper alloy bar mount. There is a central ring, with two projecting arms extending from opposite sides. These arms are sub-rectangular, tapering in thickness towards their terminals. One arm has a small circular knop at its terminal containing a copper alloy rivet, while the other arm has a worn break. The reverse is flat. There is no visible decoration. It has a dark green patina. It is 29.22mm long, 7.54mm wide, 4.05mm thick and weighs 1.48 grams.
