A cast copper alloy spur. The spur is intact, with a six-pointed rowel; one of the button fastenings remains in situ attached to one of the loops on the spur. A buckle was also found nearby that was presumably part of this artefact. The artefact is in good condition and the surface apparently retains a good deal of gilding. The spur (including rowel) is 102mm long and 85mm wide. The spur's tapering arms have a flattened D shape in section; at the base of the rowel they are 9mm wide; at the terminal loops they are 3mm wide. One side is slightly distorted. The terminals each have two sm…

A cast copper alloy stirrup strap mount. The surface is worn and slightly corroded. The mount is a Williams Class A Type 3. The mount consists of an oval body (tall rather than broad) with a small loop on top and a flat base at the bottom. The base is pierced by two holes for rivets, with the heads in situ. The design shows a naked man, with a loincloth or other item draped over the top of the thighs and something (possible an exaggerated penis) hanging down between the legs past the splayed feet. The man appears to be bald, with a moustache and seems to extend his arms out to grasp t…

A cast copper alloy harness pendant in the Ringerike style. This openwork pendant is a rough lozenge shape. The top corner is a loop of sorts, consisting of a (?lost) pin between two small lugs. The central vertical part of the body splays out at the top, and is decorated with curious patterns. At the base the sides go up as two animal necks, with the heads at the side corners; the mouths face up and are biting the top of the pendant (the ‘back’) in the typical fashion (‘biting beasts’). This artefact dates to the 11th century.

A pair of cast copper alloy harness fittings, of the type often labelled as strap distributors (although this label may be incorrect, as they were not directly suitable for this purpose). Each item originally had four short arms with a loop at the end; one item is missing one loop and the other item is missing two adjacent loops. Each artefact has a central rounded cone-shaped body, decorated with four lines running from top to base. The arms are very short, and terminate in ‘loops’ which are in fact small hollow domes, each with a central oval-shaped hole. Each ‘loop’ is decor…

Very small cast cu-alloy double oval buckle dating from the late medieval or early post medieval period, i.e. 16th century. The buckle is complete with the pin still intact and in place, but it is possible that this the now attached pin is not the original, but a replacement one. The buckle frame is undecorated and whilst flat on the reverse, it has a ridge on the obverse, i.e. it is triangular in profile. The pin is not shaped but, as already mentioned above, looks like a simply bent rod which was attached later to replace the missing original pin.
