Cast copper alloy mount with two integral pointed lugs, decorated with asymmetrical lozenge-shaped openwork, with one extended leaf-shaped terminal and one stunted triangular terminal. Read (2001) illustrates similar examples on page 35, Fig.20, Nos.300-302, which are dated to the 17th century.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative brooch. Present is the head, bow and part of the pin and spring. The bow is sub rectangular with a raised central longitudinal rib. It has plain cylindrical wings, loop at top with spring through. Only one half of the spring is present and it has 6 coils. It is in a fair condition and has a green patina. A complete cast copper-alloy mount dating from the Roman period. Length: 21.0mm; width: 23.3mm; thickness: 12.6mm; mass: 8.1g. The mount is square in plan with two broad ribs flanking a central narrow rib on the front, and a disc-headed integral rivet protruding from the centre of the hollowed reverse. Green surface. In “Roman Artefacts”, Worrell (2004) notes that such mounts were attached to leather straps, belts or harness equipment and are common in military contexts. Most date from the 2nd – 3rd century AD (ibid.).

Incomplete copper-alloy tweezers, probably dating from the Roman. Length: 60.4mm; width of loop: 8.9mm, width at terminal: 7.5mm; maximum thickness of metal: 1.5mm; mass: 4.0g. Probably cast. The tweezers consist of one complete arm and the loop. The loop is broken and the second arm is missing. In plan, the loop is wider than the top of the arm, which has slightly concave edges which flare out towards the base.
