Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Cumbria
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Very worn small cast cu-alloy mount, possibly dating from the later medieval or post-medieval period. The mount has no prongs or lugs on the reverse, but two rivet holes (one at either end). There are possibly very faint traces of a grooves surface decoration and definite traces of gilding, but the mount is very worn and the shape and look of the original decoration is difficult to determine. It may possibly have been floral, i.e. leaves/foliage.

Lower half of a cast cu-alloy terret ring dating from the early Roman period, i.e. c. AD43-200, or possibly slightly earlier. Only the lower half of the terret survives. There are two triangle-shaped wings at the bottom and the hoop was, probably, decorated with three knop-like projections. Only one of these projections remains on the outside of the hoop.
