Object type: BEAD
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A blue glass bead of possible Roman date. It is circular in shape with a small central circular perforation. The bead measures 7.59mm in diameter, 3.41mm in thickness, and weighs 0.30g. It was found whilst metal detecting on a site known to produce Roman finds. Similar beads recorded from Suffolk (see for example SF-EB5C13, SF-9FA3C3, SF-608C77 and SF-E1AE71) and one example from Roman Colchester (Crummy, 1983: no. 614) suggest a probable Roman date for this example.

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy knee buckle, rectangular in plan and lozenge-shaped in section, with drilled holes for a separate copper alloy spindle. The spindle still holds a double-spiked tongue with two crossed swords (like the Wilkinson Sword trademark) between the spikes, and a T-shaped chape. The words SWORD and MAKE are also stamped on the back of the frame, on each of the two longer sides. If the buckle is associated with a military uniform, it was probably attached to fabric rather than leather, due the more delicate nature of the chape. Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar example o…

A cast copper-alloy fragment from the mouth of a socketed Late Bronze Age axehead. The fragment is an irregular sub-triangular form. A pair of corroded cast copper-alloy awls or tracers of possible Bronze Age date. The artefacts have a thicker body with circular cross-section that tapers to a point.
