A cast copper-alloy stirrup-strap mount of late Anglo-Saxon date (c. 11th century AD). The mount is sub-pentagonal in form with a knobbed profile. It has a wide rounded apex loop. From this it widens to its maximum width (28.0mm) at the uppermost pair of side knobs. Below is a further pair of knobs above the straight base. Object type: PIN
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire

A pin cast in copper alloy of early-medieval date (mid Anglo-Saxon). The pin has a polyhedral head (13.05 x 9.5 x 7.8mm), formed from a cuboid with its corners cut off; the triangles and lozenges thus formed are not regular. The four lozengiform fields round the edges are decorated with four and three punched ring and dots, respectively on the larger and smaller faces. Each of the triangular faces feature a single punched ring and dot; the uppermost surface is completely plain. Directly below the head is a collar. The circular-sectioned shaft continues beyond this until it is broken…

Object type: STYLUS
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Doncaster

A copper alloy stylus of probable early-medieval date. The shaft is circular in cross-section with the end flattened and flared into a triangular shape to form an eraser. The point end has been broken in antiquity, part of the shaft has also been slightly bent. The shaft is thicker in the centre to create an easier grip. It is undecorated and measures 88.6mm x 16.6mm x 4.6mm, weighing 14.55g. It has a light green patina. Undecorated styli are not easy to date, but the flat triangular eraser is commoner on early-medieval styli; it may alternatively be Roman. Compare SWYOR-2ED160.

A copper alloy late Anglo Saxon stirrup strap mount. This mount has two holes at the bottom with an 90° angled lip. The shape is essentially lozenge shaped but with the attachment end forming a rectangular terminal. The top has a central hole, although this is filled in. Object type: STRAP END
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An early medieval, cast copper alloy zoomorphic strap end. The object is tapering and rectilinear in shape. One end is broken and therefore does not show the split for the strap and the rivets to attach it. The strap end tapers to a rounded end in the shape of a small animal head with its snout at the terminal; with two slightly raised protrusions for the eyes and a brow ridge. These is some evidence of incised geometric decoration on the front of the strap end, most of which has been worn away. The strap end shares some characteristics with Thomas Class b, type I (Thomas, G, FRG Data…

A solid cast silver ingot of possible Early Medieval/Viking date. The ingot is oval in shape with rounded terminal ends. The upper and lower faces have been flattened and the edges are slightly faceted to give an almost pointed oval shaped section. The surfaces are slightly pitted and blackened in places and many horizontal striations are visible, perhaps the result of the production process or alternatively due to post-depositional damage. This ingot measures 23.05mm in length, 9.80mm in width, 5.40mm in thickness, and weighs 7.46g. Several simple cast silver ingots such a…
