County: West Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Two cast copper alloy post medieval double loop buckles found together. The buckles were held together by iron corrosion and are identical. Both have expanded, angular, outer edges to both loops and narrowed strap bars. The iron corrosion may be the remains of iron pins. The buckles are 31.9mm long, 20.9mm wide, 1.9mm thick and in combination weigh 6.63 grams. Whitehead (2003) page 55, No.313 illustrates a very similar buckle which he dates to c.1500-1650 AD.
