A mesolithic mircolith, dating from 8300 – 3500 BC. The flake is a tertiary flake with arrises and bulb scars on the dorsal face showing where other flakes had previously been removed. The striking platform and bulb of percussion have been lost due of extensive shattering of the flint, possibly around natural cracks in the material at the proximal end, particularly on the dorsal face. This small flake may have been struck off as a core refreshment flake. There is a small amount of short semi-abrupt retouch on the right edge at the distal end of the dorsal face. This may have been int…

Fragment of a Mesolithic (8300-3500 BC) flint blade . The fragment is 25.4mm long, 13.4mm wide, 2.8mm thick and weighs 0.96g. This is a tertiary flake with no cortex and the arrises on the dorsal face suggest numerous flakes had been removed from the core prior to this one. There is a lot of damage to the proximal end of the dorsal face, possibly due to the way it was struck. The bulb of percussion, with bulb scars, and shock waves are clearly visible on the ventral face. The blade has been snapped with a clean break after striking but it is not clear if this was deliberate.

Incomplete and distorted sheet thimble: top with five-petalled rose, and most of walling (none of base survives) with rows of separate rings having central pits. An unusual type - see Holmes reference (a trawl through the English and Dutch literature found only above-ground survivals similar). This item appears to have a sufficient proportion of silver to qualify as potential Treasure under the Treasure Act currently in force. Reference: Cf. Holmes, EF 1976, Thimbles, Gill & Macmillan, Dublin, 15 fig.6b & d, assigned to the late 17th century.
