A copper-alloy book clasp composed of two integral components; a sub-oval body, sub-drop shaped protrusion. The oval body is slightly domed with a central hole. This hole would allow a pegwhich was fixed to the opposite cover of the book to be inserted to hold the strap in place and keep the book closed. The object has been cast from copper alloy, which was folded, the fold forming a vertical edge. Both faces are symmetrical. The design is a standing animal, probably a horse. Behind the horse is a vertical rectangle that is also integral to the tail. The animal is standing on a horizontal line which is integral to the animals feet and rectangle behind the animal. A largely complete Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age axe hammer, fabricated from an unidentified igneous rock. In plan, the axe hammer is broadly drop shaped, with a circular perforation towards the butt. The perforation has curved sides and the circumference reduces towards its centrepoint - it is hour glass shaped. A lead alloy toy watch from which a large piece is missing. The watch is a disc of lead alloy which is 43.9mm long, 34.7mm wide and 5.3mm thick. About a quarter of the face is missing. It is only decorated on one face, but incised Roman numerals are visible. The numbers X, XI, XII and I can be made out. The earliest toy watches were made in the seventeenth century and were also popular in the eighteenth. A copper alloy purse frame fragment dating from the late medieval or early Post Medieval period. The fragment is 74.7mm long, 7.1mm wide and 4.3mm thick. It tapers to a point at one end. It is L shaped in section and there is a small circular hole through one flange of the L. This is where a wire loop would have attached the fabric purse to the frame. The other flange is decorated with incised letters which would have contained niello. Only two of the letter can be interpreted: "IN". Religious inscriptions are quite common on purse frames of this date, as are illiterate inscriptions. …

A lead alloy button which probably dates from the late medieval period. It has a diameter of 27.1mm and is 17.3mm thick. The front of the face is convex and is decorated with a raised centre surrounded by raised radiating lines with pellets at the end. There is also a raised border. On the reverse is a raised central rib and a projecting circular loop on a stem. A very similar button can be seen on page 17 of “Buttons and Fasteners” by Bailey (2004). This is dated to the fourteenth or fifteenth century. The button has a creamy yellow patina.

A copper alloy dagger guard which probably dates from the medieval or early post medieval period. The guard is sub-triangular with a rounded knop at each end and a raised border. It bows outwards to allow space for a elliptical hole through which the tang would have fitted. It is 52.4mm long, 15.1mm wide and 13.2mm thick. The point of the triangle would probable have pointed down the blade. No close published parallel has been found, but there is a similar example on the database (PAS record NCL-DF2D24), and further examples can be seen on page 39 of the London Museum Medieval Catalog…

A lead alloy object which is probably a seal probably dating from the late medieval or post medieval period. It is a lead alloy disc with a broken projection from one side. It is 34.1mm long, 30.5mm wide and 4.8mm thick. One side has a stamped design which seems to be a cross within a lozenge within an eight lobed border. The broken projection was probably a loop to attach the seal. It has not been possible to find a close parallel for this object, but a Tudor or post medieval date seems the most likely from the style of decoration. The edges are rounded and the reverse is plain.

Circular, convex, solid cast, lead/tin button, with a six-petalled flower/wheel decoration. The six sunken petals are in the form of petal-shaped cells. The spokes in between are raised and have rows of three raised pellets on them, hence 'wheel'. There is also a central pellet and pellets around the edge. The back is flat with the casting seam visible and the integral cast loop is broken.

A cast copper alloy single looped D-shaped buckle. The buckle has a narrowed and flat strap bar. The opposite edge of the frame has a collar with a rounded knop. Extending out from the strap bar in a circular sectioned projection. The metal has lost most of its original surface and the metal is a mid reddish-brown colour and is pitted. There are file marks on the buckle. This type of buckle dates from circa 1600-1850.

Incomplete early post medieval copper alloy rowel spur with much of the surface missing. Almost one entire arm is also missing (broken just next to the neck) as well as part of the figure-of-eight terminal on the surviving arm. It measures 102.2mm in length and weighs 27.73g. The surviving arm is flat in section though sightly curved on the outside. It appears to have had transverse line decoration although almost all original surface is lost. A cast copper alloy ring. The ring has a flattened, circular section and chamfered edges. It is worn, with a badly damaged edges with a dark brownish-green patina. Due to a lack of excavated examples it is not possible to date this object. Copper alloy rings like this one have been used through-out history for everything from harness fittings to clothes fittings.

A cast lead fabric weight. Circular and flat, with a central circular recess on one face containing two small circular holes, which allow the weight to be sewn in place. These weights were (and are) used to weigh down the hems of curtains, and perhaps also skirts. They seem to have come into use perhaps in the eighteenth century, and are still available to buy today.
