Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Sheffield
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper alloy finger ring which is probably post medieval. It has an oval bezel and the hoop appears to be D shaped in section. The ring is almost impossible to identify because it is trapped in a concretion of ferrous corrosion. The iron object may have been tubular and have been through the hoop of the ring in the ground. No decoration is visible on the hoop or the bezel. The poor quality of the copper alloy and the shape of the bezel suggest a post medieval date. The ring has a diameter of 23.7mm and is 13.8mm thick at the bezel. The weight of the ring and the corrosion combined is 22.7g.
