Medieval copper alloy barb spring from a padlock, measuring 26.7x10.2mm and weighing 3.52g.
The barb spring is in two pieces - a main shaft c.20mm in length and 7mm wide with a c.10mm diameter circular terminal from which extends a c.4mm long 2.5mm diameter circular-sectioned rivet, and a piece of sheet copper alloy 19x6mm attached to the end of the shaft opposite the circular terminal with a single rivet. This is the barb and extends almost to the circular terminal, at an angle.
The shaft has a slightly rounded face on its other side, suggesting maybe there was only one barb.

It has a raised central rib which widens as it approaches the edge which contains a semi-circular protrusion 6mm deep and 10mm wide. The matrix is illustrated with a lamb holding a flag (Agnus Dei).
