a perforated lead weight. It is an oval shape and has a plano-convex section. The perforation is off-centre, with an angular rather than circular outline, and does not taper, as might be expected if it was used as a spindle whorl. The weight measures 28mm in length and 24.5mm in width. It is 6.85mm in thickness. It weighs 20g, and is likely to be of medieval date.

A small copper-alloy narrow-butted flat 'axe-chisel' with slight cross 'stop' bevel. Complete except for slight recent losses from the two ends of the convex blade and two small chips from the blade edge. There are three linear (plough?) recent abrasions on one face. There is some visible green invasive corrosion, especially along the blade facets, causing slight pitting in places but elsewhere the surfaces are good with a mid to dark brown patination. The body is a thin sub-trapezoidal form with straight sides on the butt-half broadening to the expanded blade. The long…

a copper alloy medieval bar mount. It is a flat rectangular strip 18.5mm in length and 9.5mm in width, weighing 0.7g. A polished flint axehead with narrow butt and squared sides. All-over polish with only a few former flake scars present, mainly on butt butt half of axe. Polish is coarse apart from blade end where it is fine. The surface is a mixture of mid brown and grey, possibly partial peat staining. However, one side of the cutting edge has a series of unstained flakes removed at a later date, showing a mid grey flint. These flakes look like retouch but are possibly plough damage that occurred when the axe was buried at the base of the plough line in a sub-vertical position, relatively recently.…

The butt end of a bronze rapier of dirk with remains of four side notches under the domed (convex) butt edge. The rapier is marked mainly diagonally from one direction with abrasive cleaning and sharpening incisions. Very little surface corrosion and a medium-deep brown patination. The breaks at the blade end and smaller loss at butt end both look fairly ancient, though traces of corriosn at the blade end may mask the colour of the break so it may be more recent. An incomplete cast copper-alloy Roman trumpet-headed 'fly' brooch (2nd century AD). The bow, trumpet-shaped head, pin and enamel inlay are missing. The surviving parts of the brooch, comprising the leg and foot knob, are in the form of an insect’s wings and head.
