A symmetrical cast copper-alloy strap mount of Roman date. The mount is formed of two facing moulded creatures either side of a central element. This latter has rounded terminals, and three incurving removals on each side creating a pair of slight protrusions. The creatures join with the central element at their snouts (uppermost), their fore limbs or flippers (uppermost protrusions) and tails or hind limbs (lowermost). This tail element is slightly recessed as it emerges from the body. It curves round below the creature to join the back at the end of a slightly serrated shallow mould…

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A large pin cast in copper-alloy, probably from a medieval buckle. The pin is long, slender and tapers to a point. The other end has been bent round into a loop. On the internal face there is some recessing including a triangular nick to retain the loop. In plan the pin bends slightly in one direction. Viewed in profile the pin bends upwards slightly at the tip. Its colour is now a mid-dark green. The size and simplicity of the pin suggests that it may have come from a large buckle, as opposed to a brooch.

A very worn classical style cast copper-alloy figure which is possibly a terminal knop from an early post-medieval spoon. It depicts a figure standing facing left (her left). Her left arm extends outwards at a obtuse angle from the body, whilst the right arm is bent at the elbow and travels upwards before it is broken. The figure is a female, probably representing Venus, and is unclothed apart from a garment draped around its waist extending slightly downwards below her left arm. The feet are absent following an old truncation. The red-brown colour to which this object has corroded is …
