Incomplete Roman iron hipposandal (a type of horseshoe). The hooked heel only remains. The plate has incurved sides with the remnants of one flared wing at one side. At the back the plate curves upwards into a flared, convex heel plate with an incomplete backward projecting hook at the mid point of the upper edge. the hook is tapering and square sectioned. Coarse scraper and polishing tool. Dark to pale grey flint with a high gloss patina. A large secondary flake with coarse retouch along the distal edge and part of both sides. There is a large bulb of percussion and faint waves on the ventral face There is also some polish to one edge of the dorsal surface which has blunted the edges of the flaking scars and given it a high gloss. Half of a pebble mace. Made from an orangey-grey quartzite pebble. It was originally sub-oval in shape. The perforation has an hour-glass profile indicating that it was made using a solid bit, drilling halfway from each side. Date: These are often dated to the Mesolithic, but may well also be later in date (Neolithic). Dimensions: 58 mm x 65 mm x 29 mm. Hole diameter: 20 mm at top, 14 mm at centre. Weight: 140 g

Large flint end scraper. Patchy light grey-brown and off-white flint with a glossy patina. The scraper has been made on a long secondary flake which retains a patch of white nodule cortex. The bulb of percussion and striking platform have been removed by subsequent working. At the proximal end there is some coarse flaking and at the distal, working edge there is fine retouch.
