Description: An early Anglo-Saxon circular gold setting, now incomplete, distorted and damaged. The outer edge is surrounded by a triple frame: A plain gold strip, now largely squashed, is set inside a very fine beaded wire ring and the outer edge of the object is then framed by twisted beaded wires. The centre of the setting is now empty. The back-plate, now slightly warped, is round and plain. In its centre there is a roughly rectangular slot with torn edges. All the artefacts date from the Ewart Park phase of the Late Bronze Age (1000-800 BC). A Medieval mount, made of thin sheet metal, oval in shape, with a champfered edge. The front is decorated with a cut-out quatrefoil, around which is a simple, engraved ornament in the shape of foliage. The reverse has two centrally aligned studs, one hollow and one solid. The mount is silver and dates from the fifteenth century.

A silver post medieval button of late 17th-century date. It is made from silver sheet,and is circular with a bevelled edge. It is stamped with double hearts beneath a crown. A medieval scabbard chape. The chape has small rivet holes near the wider end (although the rivets are missing) for attachment to the scabbard. This end is incised with two pairs of double lines and the opposing end terminates in a knop. The chape is silver, silver chapes are not common finds. It dates to the mid 14th century or later.

A Medieval finger-ring tapering into a pointed bezel, which has been sheared off. The shoulders are decorated with what appear to be two animal heads conjoined at the snout. The back of the ring carries an inscription which reads: I E S V S C R I S T (Jesus Christ) The finger-ring is silver-gilt and dates from the thirteenth or early fourteenth century.

CORONER'S REPORT Description of object A plain pennanular gold ring of near circular cross-section. It exhibits some lifting at the terminals, which show that the piece comprises a gold covering over a base metal core. Such items are well-known Bronze Age artefacts of decorative character, with a number reported through the Treasure Act, but are rarely found in excavated contexts. External diameter 16.5 x 17.5mm /internal diameter 7mm / breadth 5.5mm. Mass 7.46g.

A copper alloy pin of middle Anglo-Saxon date. The pin has a cubic head with the corners cut off to make a polyhedral shape. Its four side facets each bear a single ring-and-dot motif, and its upper face is ornamented with a simple saltire. The shaft has a collar just below the base of the head. The pinhead has a width of 6.7mm, and the shank a diameter of 2.0mm. The entire pin is 21.4mm long, and weighs 2.5g. A Romano-British dolphin brooch, possibly of the Polden Hill type. The brooch is relatively short (26.4mm), with 22.1mm wide wings housing a spring casing open at the rear. The brooch has a downwardly curving, typical dolphin style bow, which tapers gently to a blunt, rounded foot. The bow is decorated with reeding and zigzags, and there is a small stud at its apex. 1st Century Fibula Brooch: Late Iron Age/ Early Roman Colchester one-piece brooch. The brooch has narrow (15.9mm) wings, and a long (51.2mm), gently curving bow with a slightly bulbous foot. The head of the bow bears the remnant of a 5.7mm diameter stud. The head and foot bear simple line ornament,but the bow itself is unornamented. Interestingly, the curve of the bow has a slight return at the foor, which is more typical of continental examples than Romano-British Colchester type brooches. The brooch has a rough surface and a patchy green-brown patina. Mass 8.2g.

Complete contemporary silver plated forgery (with copper-alloy core) of an Anglo-Saxon Coin (sceatta). The coin is a copy of a Series N type. The obverse shows a backwards facing beast with gaping jaw - possibly a dog, bear or mythical monster and the reverse is broadly illegible but should show two standing figures with a cross between. The item is dated 715-720. Imitations of Series N coins, including plated copies are known from around the country.
