An incomplete medieval copper-alloy forked spacer from a composite strap end. The spacer has two tapering prongs which form the fork; both prongs are broken and now of slightly differing lengths. The prongs terminate in old breaks. They converge at a shallow angle before extending into a prominent acorn knop terminal which is nestled within a cup and surmounted on a ridged collar. The acorn and its cup do not appear decorated. The acorn is of three-dimensional form. Solder traces may be visible on the internal faces of the fork prongs above the acorn knop for attaching the missing pla…

Post-medieval silver halfgroat of the Commonwealth (AD 1649-1660), minted at London, AD 1649-1660, North 2728.
Pierced with four sub-circular holes grouped around the centre. The holes are not lined up and three have been made form the obverse and one from the reverse. While the arrangement could suggest a button the choice of coin to be modified suggests a political message, either by wearing the coin or deliberately defacing it.

A copper-alloy belt hanger of suggested late medieval date. Several examples of this category of artefact are recorded on the PAS datbase - see, for example, NMS-1EEA45, NMS-D99313 and IOW-7A0A93. There is also an unprovenanced example in the London Museum collection. It is suggested that they may have served to suspend a sword from a belt. The uppermost feature of the piece is a heavily stylised zoomorphic (possibly dog's) head, which has a pronounced nose, deeply-grooved mouth and a flat underside. The neck extends vertically downwards into a basal loop. Close to the top of the oute…

A complete copper-alloy brooch of medieval date. Hattatt suggests that this type of brooch, consisting solely of a circular frame and pin, probably dates from the 13th to 15th century AD (R. Hattatt; 2000; pp. 382).
The circular frame measures 46.8mm in diameter. It has convex inner and outer edges and flattened upper and lower faces. The pin, which is of sturdy construction, is attached to the frame by a loop, on the underside of which is a short break. The cast pin is of rectangular section and tapers in width and thickness towards the point, which overhangs the edge of the frame …
