A Post Medieval fragment of stone mould for tokens (AD1500-1700). The fragment represents part of one half of the mould. There is a socket in one corner for a post to secure both halves of the mould together when casting. No notches remain on the outer edges of the stone for further securing the two halves during casting. The socket indicates there would have been another half to the mould, probably with another pattern carved to form a bifacial token. The shape of the fragment indicates the mould was originally rectangular; the breaks are very abraded indicating the damage occurr…

Cast copper alloy buckle frame fragment. The item is sub-triangular (trapezoid) in shape. The reverse is plain and the front is decorated with a central linear groove running from the 'apex' to the baseline. To either side of this are smaller incised diagonal grooves. The'apex' finishes with a scalloped edge of four peaks and three furrows. The baseline is concave. Although it appears that the one remaining corner is complete (whilst the other is broken) the general consensus is that this is simply worn smooth and that the item is part of a buckle loop with the larger linear groove be…

An incomplete flint end scraper of probable Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. The scraper has been made from a tertiary flake. At the proximal end are the striking platform and bulb of percussion. Ripples radiate down the ventral surface and there are a number of flaking scars on the dorsal surface. The distal end has been retouched, although part of this has broken off. Bronze / Copper Alloy sestertius of unknown emperor - from the style of the bust it would suggest a date between 138-211. The most likely candidate is Septimius Severus, due to the shape of the beard (although Antoninus Pius is very similar)

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: West Berkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy fleur de lis shaped mount. The front and back are both undecorated. Protruding from the reverse is a single cast-in hook. It has been suggested that it was originally two pronged and it is possible that a second hook protruded from the edge of the object below the two circles. An alternative suggestion is that this formed one half of a hook and eye fastening. The object has a deep green brown colouration. It has been dated from the 16th to early 17th centuries.

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: West Berkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Solid cast copper alloy penannular loop with tapered ends and a gilded surface. The item was probably intended for use as a finger ring but other possibilities include Roman to Early Medieval earring or pendant although these are less favoured due to the fact that the surface gilding, which extends to the ends, would have been impractical. Similarly shaped and sized objects have been primarily dated to the earlier medieval period including LIN-82FB84 and Treasure item no.87 in the 2004 Annual Treasure report. Early Medival finds Advisor Helen Geake has however pointed out that none …
