A Scottish medieval silver penny of Alexander III (AD 1249-1286). This coin is of Alexander's second issue, minted between 1280 and 1286, in imitation of Edward I's long cross coinage. This example measures 19.5mm in diameter, 0.7mm in thickness, and 1.3g in mass. It is slightly damaged, with some edges clipped, and a little post-depositional deformation, but is otherwise in excellent condition, with very little wear. Obverse: Crowned bust left / Alexander Dei Gra Reverse: Long cross with six-pointed mullets/ Rex Scotorum Spink 2003 (Scotland and Ireland) : ref 5052.

A cast lead token. The token is flat and circular, with a rim. The obverse of the token depicts a six pointed wheel motif. The lead has gone a dark greyish-brown colour. The reverse is blank. Due to a lack of excavated examples these tokens can only be loosely dated from between circa 1400 – 1850 AD.

A large and tall pear-shaped lead weight, with a circular base. There is a small circular perforation running through the centre of the weight. The hole is now largely filled with lead corrosion product and soil. These weighs are not yet completely understood. It is possible that it dates to the medieval period or later, but due to the lack of context this weight must remain undated. The weight is complete. The lead is a light whitish-grey colour.

Half of a cast copper alloy double looped buckle, with an intact strap bar. The outer edge of the frame is decorated with moulded ridges, forming a serrated edge. The metal has lost most of its original surface and the metal is a mid greenish-brown colour. This type of buckle dates from circa 1450 - 1650. Parallels for this type of buckle can be seen in Whitehead, 2003, p60.

A small cast copper alloy openwork mount. The mount is lozenge shape with a small lobed knop at each corner. The openwork element in the centre is quatrefoil shaped. The surface of the mount is worn with a dark reddish-brown patina. On the reverse two attachment spikes extend upwards and inwards. This object dates to the 17th -18th century.

A cast copper alloy buckle, with two loops separated by an integral plate. One loop is complete and is circular. The other loop is broken and only half of it survives but it is much larger than the other loop. The plate has a flattened D-shaped section; it is undecorated, with no rivet holes. This buckle was probably used on horse equipment; parallels for this type of buckle can be seen in Whitehead, 2003, p35.

A cast copper alloy ring, diameter 26.9mm. The ring has a flattened circular section. It is worn and heavily pitted with a dark brownish-green patina. Copper alloy rings like this one have been used through-out history for everything from harness fittings to clothes fittings.

Copper alloy brooch, shield shaped. Missing pin and one end of the plate including most of the catchplate; damaged spring lugs. The pin was sprung between two wide spaced lugs (5mm apart) with low ridges between forming a box shape. The plate is flat backed except behind the central small boss. The surviving end is almost straight, with the sides angling slightly out to the centre. Between the centre boss and the end there is a recessed, probably originally enamelled area, containg three copper alloy spots arranged in a triangle. An unusual pot leg fragment from a cast copper alloy vessel. The fragment consists of the upper part of the leg only. The leg has a flat top, which is oval in shape and long. It tapers down to a leg which has five facets. All the breaks are worn. The surface of the metal is pitted with a mid greyish-green patina. Pot legs date to AD 1350-1850.
