A cast lead or lead alloy ampulla. In plan it is sub-drop shape with a straight upper edge. The ampulla has also been bent over obliquely at the narrowest point at the neck after it has been ripped along this line. The rip is not recent. The ampulla has a slightly swollen rounded base, and a narrowed neck. Both lower faces of the ampulla are decorated. A complete copper-alloy book clasp of Howsam type A.4.2, and medieval in date. The object is rectangular and flat with a cast front plate and a sheet back plate. It measures 21.19mm in length and 14.21mm in width.
The cast front plate has a integral hook projecting from the centre of one end. Directly behind this, in the centre of the clasp, is a separately made upward-projecting loop, riveted in place with an integral rivet which passes through both plates. A complete copper-alloy terminal from a medieval hinged book-clasp. It measures 38.49mm in length and 19.10mm in width.
It is roughly D-shaped or sub-rectangular, and the attachment end has two projecting lugs. Corroded iron remains can be seen around these, and originally an iron hinge bar would have passed through the lugs and the folded end of the sheet plate of the book-clasp, holding the two components together. Incomplete medieval copper alloy annular brooch, missing the tip of its pin. It is 36.4x35mm in diameter (internal hole 25mm diameter), D-shaped in section and flat on the underside. The pin is flat in section.
The curved part of the brooch has been drilled with holes 2mm in diameter, one then a pair all the way around so the brooch is symmetrical along the pin line. There is a slight distance of undrilled brooch either side of the constriction for the pin. A cast copper-alloy late Roman 'amphora-shaped' strap end, in the study by Bishop and Coulston (1993, 175, fig 126, no 7), these types are associated with fourth century Dominate belt-furniture. Middle Bronze Age rapier fragment of Burgess and Gerloff Group IV (The Dirks and Rapiers of Great Britain and Ireland, Prähistorische Bronzefund IV 7). It measures 22.3x16.2x(max)3.8mm and weighs 7.20g. All breaks are ancient.
The rapier has a broad flat mid-rib and much of the patina is lost. The surface is worn and pitted.
Rapiers date to the Middle Bronze Age but fragments are often found in Late Bronze Age hoards, suggesting continued use.

The face of the mount is plain; it has two terminal lobes at one end which have narrow projections, one of which curves back on itself. A copper alloy probable mount in the form of a human head or face. It is likely that it is Roman. It is ovoid, measuring 24.8mm long, 16.7mm wide and 8.1mm thick, and has a convex front. The hair is clearly depicted with zig-zag and wavy incised lines. The face has a long straight nose and oval eyes. There are three neat scratched lines on the person's right cheek. A copper alloy buckle plate which is medieval. The plate is sub-rectangular and is of one piece construction, bent at one end to form a back plate. The bent end is recessed to form two projecting hinges which would have attached to the buckle frame. There is a rivet in each of the two corners opposite the hinges. They are dome headed and intact. The rectangle is long, with the shorter edge attaching to the bar. The plate is 29.3mm long, 20.1mm wide and 3.7mm thick. A fragment from a copper alloy padlock mechanism.
All that survives of the padlock mechanism is the arm (tab), which is connected to the now broken bolt collar (sheath) at one end and the spring at the other, which juts out at a 90 ° angle from the arm. The spring is formed of two tapering prongs.
It is difficult to say anything else about this object as it has been over cleaned in a barreling machine.
A parallel for the part of the padlock can be seen in Egan, p93, fig: 65.

A polished flint Duggleby Adze of Neolithic date. The object has convex cutting edge and a rounded narrower end. Both ends of the adze have been made into a blade edge. The sides taper inwards from the narrowed end before flaring outwards again towards the wider cutting edge forming slightly concave or 'waisted' sides. The adez has been made from an orangey-brown (almost toffee) flint which has been polished all over to give it the smooth surface. There are some white inclusion in the flint, perhaps fossils or minerals.

A fragment from a cast copper alloy Early Medieval Small-Long Brooch. The brooch is broken midway down the bow and only middle part of the brooch survives. The arched bow is carinated at the front, convex behind and the corners are faceted. The foot originates in a flat field with a band of moulding at the top and bottom and the foot terminal is missing. Behind the foot is a complete catchplate with a length of 11.5mm and a width of 2.4mm. The surviving length of the brooch is 29.0mm, the width is 7.0mm and the weight is 3.06g.

The brooch is broken above the moulded collar with three transverse lines and expands below the band to a sub-triangular foot. The foot is decorated with two vertical lines of punched dots and two transverse grooves midway down. On the back of the foot is a complete catchplate. The surviving length is 25.0mm, the maximum width is 11.2mm and the weight is 6.63g.
