A cast one-piece lead/tin alloy button, probably late medieval to post-medieval in date (circa 1400 – 1650).
The button is circular and slightly plano-convex. It has an integral undrilled shank on the reverse. The front of the button depicts two shields surmounted by a crown. One shield displays a portcullis but the other shield is badly corroded so the surface cannot be seen.
Similar buttons can be seen in Read, p17.
