A cast copper-alloy fragment of irregular form after old damage: probably a medieval dress accessory. The artefact has a ragged edge and a perforation in part which protrdues. It is mid-dark green in colour with some areas of lighter bronze disease. Decoration is unifacial and consists of linear incisions in no discernible pattern, and also some rocker arm zig-zags.

A copper-alloy seal-box lid of Roman date. Several examples of this category of artefact have been found in excavations at Colchester and the suggested date range is 2nd to 3rd century AD (N. Crummy; 1983; pp. 103-4).
The leaf-shaped lid is an example of a Colchester Type 4. The widest part of the lid is towards the hinge and the sides converge towards the terminal knob. The lower third of each side (adjacent to the knob) is scalloped and the area of the surface just below the hinge has three side by side elongated leaf-shaped voids, which may originally have contained enamel insets…

Roman complex riveted varient of a rosette (also known a thistle) brooch of copper alloy with a lion decoration. These brooches consist of four elements; the bow and spring cover, the leg and catchplate, the spring/pin and a rosette plate. In this example, the leg and catchplate, rosette plate and a section of the bow are present, rivetted together. A corner of the leg is damaged and the edges have numerous pits. The object is covered in a black patina weighs 3.15g and measures 39x9mm.

Incomplete but remarkable Middle/Late Saxon Scandinavian cast-in-one Oval brooch, one end missing and the other squashed, with single pin lug and catchplate on hollow reverse. Elaborate moulded decoration includes four small bosses, knot interlace and probable animal heads. Textile impressions on the reverse are from the casting process (MacGregor 1997, 45; Rogerson and Ashley 2008, 437-9, fig. 7 no. 38). Late 8th century.

Copper alloy ecclesiastical knife handle. The handle is in the form of Jonah rising from the mouth of the fish, with hands together in prayer. The handle is semi-circular in cross-section and presumably there would have been a similar backing plate to cover the reverse of the handle. The handle is broken at the tang end. The main shank of the handle is taken up by the fish, which has a long slender tapering body with a triangular shaped snout. The perimeter of the snout is emphasised by a moulded ridge. A large flint scraper. The translucent light grey flint has a small patch of opaque white patina forming on the ventral face and the proximal is covered with cortex. The dorsal face is heavily worked with face scars in different directions. The distal end and possibly the left edge has short retouch. The ventral face also has flake scars in two directions. The length is 42.9mm, the width is 35.3mm, the thickness is 18.1mm and the weight is 26.44g.

An incomplete cast copper alloy medieval vessel leg. The sub-rectangular leg is sub-triangular in section and has a prominent ridge down the centre. The top of the leg is truncated and the foot is angled and flat on the bottom. The surviving length is 41.6mm, the maximum width is 45.6mm, the thickness is 19.0mm and the weight is 111.61g.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy medieval terminal from a vessel handle. The hollow zoomorphic terminal is oval in section and depicts an animal head in profile, possibly a bear or dog. The eyes are triangular, the ears are rounded and the mouth is slightly open with a rod inside. The back of the head is flat and has the remains of an integral copper-alloy circular-sectioned handle shaft. The length is 23.7mm, the width is 16.5mm, the thicknes is 13.0mm and the weight is 20.67g.
A similar example can be seen in Egan, 1998, 175, No.487, Fig. 143 and dates from 14th to 16th century.
