Incomplete but remarkable Middle/Late Saxon Scandinavian cast-in-one Oval brooch, one end missing and the other squashed, with single pin lug and catchplate on hollow reverse. Elaborate moulded decoration includes four small bosses, knot interlace and probable animal heads. Textile impressions on the reverse are from the casting process (MacGregor 1997, 45; Rogerson and Ashley 2008, 437-9, fig. 7 no. 38). Late 8th century.
