A heavily worn and corroded copepr-alloy jetton of post-medieval date. This piece is an example of the Rose/Orb series struck in Nuremberg in the 16th century AD. It measures 23.1mm in diameter, 0.1mm thick and weighs 1.36g. At the centre us a pierced sub-square hole, presumably indicating that the jetton was later used as a pendant.

A corroded and slightly damaged copper-alloy strap-end of late Early-medieval date. The style of this piece probably derives from the Winchester style of decoration and dates from the 10th or 11th century AD. The main part of the strap-end is of a roughly-symmetrical openwork design, with two crescent-shaped holes, three projecting lobes along the bottom edge, and a horizontal ridge at the top. The attachment plate, which is located at the top, is slightly recessed, has three small circular holes and a horizontal top edge. The reverse of the piece is plain. The object measures 22.9mm …

An incomplete copper-alloy pin of middle Early-medieval (Anglo-Saxon) date. The head is multi-faceted, taking the form of a cube with the corners cut off. The shaft, of which only a small portion survives, is integral and of circular section. The head measures 10.5mm wide and 11.8mm high. The piece as a whole is 19.8mm long and weighs 7.76g.

A corroded and damaged lead cloth seal of late 17th century AD date. The one intact sub-circular disc bears a legend in relief, which reads: WOR/STED/REFOR/[MED] - this indicates that it was attached to Norfolk worsted cloth. The seal measures 22.4mm long, 20.1mm wide and 4.7mm thick. The weight is 5.58g.

A corroded copper-alloy belt mount or harness decoration of probable post-medieval date. The plate takes the form of a flower head, with five petals, a central hole and possibly part of a stem. On the reverse are two integral rivets (one incomplete), both of which are bent in the same direction. The object measures 15.2mm long, 12.5mm wide and 5mm thick. The weight is 1.36g.

A copper-alloy seal-box lid of Roman date. Several examples of this category of artefact have been found in excavations at Colchester and the suggested date range is 2nd to 3rd century AD (N. Crummy; 1983; pp. 103-4). The leaf-shaped lid is an example of a Colchester Type 4. The widest part of the lid is towards the hinge and the sides converge towards the terminal knob. The lower third of each side (adjacent to the knob) is scalloped and the area of the surface just below the hinge has three side by side elongated leaf-shaped voids, which may originally have contained enamel insets…
