County: Devon

Copper alloy 'seal top' knop from a spoon. A similar knop (in pewter) is illustrated in Egan 2005, p 116, number 570. Egan (2005, p118) notes that copper alloy spoons were usually flat stemmed with plain tops, or hexagonal stems with slip tops. This would make this copper alloy seal top spoon knop unusual. The seal top spoon in Egan was found with pottery dating between 1600-1750. It is therefore probable that this spoon knop is of a similar date. Length 35mm; Diameter (of 'seal')12mm; Weight 6.56g.

Square shaped flat pan weight with wavy edges and incuse numerals IIII on one surface. Post medieval in date. Biggs, N. & Withers, P. (2000) note that weights of this type with numerals are consistent with the Roman weight-system as well as the averdepois system, thus they could equally be 16th century. Given the growing number of these lead weights being found in the North West, it is likely they are of a post-medieval date.
