Section of a copper alloy penannular brooch. This type of brooch is a simple form of accessory and was in use for over a millennium. It is made of two pieces of wire; one bent into an open ring and the other piece wrapped around the frame to form a pin. Only about half the brooch frame survives of this example and is a late Iron Age – Roman period example with a type D3 terminal. The terminal is squared off with incised linear decoration. The brooch weighs 2.74g and measures 39mm in length, 17mm in width and 3.6mm in thickness (across terminal).

Copper alloy buckle dating to the Medieval period (probably around 1350-1500AD). The buckle is an unusual form comprising of a single looped frame which has a pin bar dividing approximately one third of the frame off. The larger part of the frame is D-shaped and the smaller section is rectangular. The outside edge of the D-shaped frame is thickened and decorated with a cast zoomorphic head depicting a mouth and incised chevron decoration along the back of the head (presumably to indicate fur). Lead alloy uniface coin weight, square in plan and flat in section. The weight is decorated with a cross with an object in each angle, possibly annulets, all within a beaded border. It is 13.9 mm by 13.66 mm, 1.7mm thick and weighs 1.380 dwt or 2.14g. It was probably used to weigh a full or half Portugese escudo.See Withers, 1995, Lions, ships and angels, page 44.

The fragment consists of the upper torso / body of a figure (known as the corpus) which would probably have been attached to a wooden cross. The forward edge is expanded by a ridge that runs along its length so that it is 3mm thick 5mm wide. In the centre of the attachment end there is a hole 2mm wide, with a copper alloy rivet still in place, the rivet prudes into the centre of the frame. Cast copper alloy double looped buckle length 25mm, width 25mm, thickness 2mm, weight 6.29g. Each loop is trapezoid in plan, the outside edge is serrated, the forward edge has two circular projections on each of the corner. The strap bar is narrowed, with iron corrosion surrounding it, this is the remains of the pin. The overall condition is poor with corrosion eating away at most of the surface. This artefact date to the second half of the 16th century.
