Fragment of a cast copper alloy chafing dish of Late Medieval or Early Post Medieval date (AD 1450 - AD 1550). Length of the surviving part 40.0mm. Width of fragment, 36.0mm. The rim is about 13.0mm in width and about 3.0mm in thickness. Weight 28.07g. The fragment consists of part of the rim and the upward projecting and tapering pointed dish-support for supporting an upper vessel. The dish-support is 29.0mm in length and is trapezoidal in cross-section. Chafing dishes usually had three dish supports, equally spaced around the rim. A copper-alloy horse harness pendant in the form of a bell. This piece probably dates from the 13th or 14th century AD.
The bell chamber is roughly spherical, with four slits and a central gap on the underside. The hanger is sub-circular in section and terminates in a small suspension loop. The surface of the object has possible traces of gilding.
It measures 24.6mm high, by 11.3mm wide and weighs 3g.
