Incomplete Late Iron Age or Roman iron penannular brooch of Fowler type C. This simple brooch is formed from a single circular sectioned piece of wire, curved into a C shaped hoop. The ends of the wire are spiralled and then bent at a right angle to the plane of the hoop. One spiralled terminal is missing, as is the pin. The brooch has a diameter of 26.18mm and the hoop is 1.82mm wide and 1.8mm thick. The spiral terminal is 4.98mm wide. The brooch weighs 1.16g. Copper alloy brooch, Colchester type. Missing part of pin and catchplate fold, otherwise in good condition. 6-turn spring. Small flat wings with no decoration. Circular section bow, with slight facets making it almost hexagonal, tapering to a blunt point and with no decoration. In profile the head angle is around 90 degrees and there is a strong curve. The catchplate has two rectangular and one triangular holes. Width 10mm, length 36mm - small for the type.
