An incomplete copper-alloy sheet vessel repair patch, which would have been riveted onto the damaged area of the sheet vessel of medieval date. Originally rectangular in shape, measuring 76.2mm in length and 52.99mm in width, one corner and one short and one long edge are now missing due to old breaks. Around the two surviving edges of the sheet there are evenly spaced copper-alloy rivets with flat rectangular heads and split folded terminals. An incomplete lead weight, possible a Roman steelyard weight. It is triangular in shape with an oval cross-section and measures 34.98mm in surviving height and 26.18mm in width, it is 23.40mm in thickness. The tapering end of the weight is missing due to old breaks. It has a central circular perforation which is filled with corroded iron. A fragment of a cast copper-alloy knee brooch. The object is classified as Type D, sub-group 5.1d according to Snape (1993:45) and Collingwood Group V according to Hattatt. These classifications date the fragment to the mid-second to the mid-third centuries AD. The fantail is flat when viewed from the front, though there is a slightly concave cavity between the two springcase plates in the back. The body of the 'knee' is hollow and the fragment ends after narrowing and curving under the fantail. Toward the narrow end, and on the reverse side, a ridge begins to appear, perhaps as…

A fragment of Late Iron Age or Early Roman harness fitting. It is a C in shape and C-shaped in section, the curved side being uppermost. At one end it is broken, at the other a circular boss c.11-12mm is mounted on the curved side. The edge of the C beneath is rough and not neatly ended, though it is also worn so it is uncertain whether this is a break or intended (a messy end would not matter if it was covered by the boss, although it does ever-so-slightly continue past the boss's far edge). To the inside edge of the C the boss continues on the same horizontal plain, whereas on the o…

A pair of copper-alloy pennanular brooches, each with faint traces of gilding (brooch 1 and brooch 2). Both are complete with the pin still attached, though the pin of brooch 2 has broken. The pins have been attached by the coiling of a flattened end around the brooch. The pins are dramatically bowed, typical of a Hattatt type B pin. The terminals are coiled and are classified as Fowler Type C. Snape's (1993) type is 16.3 (still a Fowler Type C). The dating range, according to Snape, are 100 BC up to the Early Medieval period. However, pins that are so dramatically bowed t…
