Incomplete cast copper alloy hilt guard from a dagger, pierced for a rectangular-section tang. The guard has two quillons on either side of the quillon block, one is short and the other incomplete but would probably have been at least another two centimetres longer. There is also a semi-circular knuckle guard or bow on one side of the quillon block. Williams in S.A.C. Leaf-shaped flint arrowhead that has been bifacially reworked or retouched on the entire edge of both the dorsal and ventral faces. The reworking extends further onto the ventral surface from the point of the arrowhead, at the distal end, but the medial ridge of the flake obstructs further working on the dorsal face beyond the point. The bulb of percussion remains on the ventral face at the proximal end. There is no cortex remaining on the flake and the flake would have been chosen particularly for an arrowhead as its medial ridge runs the length of the flake and will add strength t…

Fourteen sherds of hand made south-western black burnished pottery of first to third century AD date. The sample comprises four base sherds (including one which is near complete), four rim sherds and six body sherds. One or two of the rim sherds are from everted-rim jars, one is fron a bowl and one is probably from a barrel-shaped bead-rim jar. The near complete base probably comes from a jar with a footring. The fabric is sandy with some rounded quartz. Most sherds are reduced with mild oxidation on some surfaces, often with a marked 'sandwich' effect and a black slip. Three of the bo…

Ten sherds of fine south-west micatious greyware of first, second or early third century date. Eight are rim sherds and the remaining two are body sherds. Three sherds are from jars and three are from bowls (it is not possible to be sure for the remaining four). The fine sandy fabric contains abundant mica. Three sherds have reduced grey surfaces and oxidised cores and the others are reduced. The largest sherd is from an imitation Gallo-Belgic bowl. Its rim has an external bead, it has a cordon part way down the straight side, lattice work below this and a carination immediately below …

Copper alloy medieval sub-triangular buckle. The buckle frame is flat in section. It is damaged, with the narrowed and offset strap bar and buckle pin entirely missing, leaving only the curved side arms of the buckle, now slightly bent out of shape, but still roughly C shaped. The front end of the buckle is expanded, and when complete would have tapered to form the triangular front, probably with a trefoil terminal. It too is damaged and the point and terminal have broken away. There is no grooved pin rest. The expanded point is decorated with a central line, with a triangular panel t…
