Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A worn and incomplete copper-alloy buckle plate of medieval date. The plate is of folded sheet construction. The upper fold itself appears broken, although much more of it survives compared to the lower fold. The upper fold tapers from a maximum width of 16.6mm to a width of 14.6mm over a length of 22.1mm. The lower fold is only 9.75mm long and 12.15mm wide. The plate is recessed at one end to take the (missing) buckle frame. Interestingly it is openwork, with a semi-circular aperture and a further ?rectangular aperture at the point of break. Between the semi-circular aperture and the…

Uni-faced cast lead-alloy token of probable late medieval / post-medieval date (1400 - 1650). The design is limited to one face and is formed from a series of cast ribs. The design on this token consists of a crudely attempted wine bottle with a wide base and narrow neck on the left, and a wine glass or goblet on the right. The goblet is formed in a similar way to the bottle and is approximately ½ the size. The edges of the token have been feathered or cut with a knife, these cuts are limited to approximately ½ the edge. On the lower part of the front face are a series of cross hatch…

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A worn cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle of post-medieval date. The loops are D-shaped and are bevelled internally on the lower face and both internally and externally on the upper. This bevelling gives the pin bar a lozengiform cross-section. At both ends of the pin bar is a slight moulded knopped protrusion. The tapering pin is of basic construction, being looped round the pin bar for retention. Internal on one of the outer loops is a notch into which the pin could rest. The buckle has the centre (pin bar) bent upwards in profile; whether this was functional or the result of…

Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An unidentified object, consisting of a broken spherical pebble of hard limestone, possbily on its way to becoming marble. It is white and sparkly on the inside and yellowy on the outside. A shaft (4x2mm) of corroded iron has either adhered to the outside through natural processes, or has been driven through the stone, though in the case of the latter the purpose is not obvious. It is far too light to be a weight, and the shaft too chunky to be a pendant.
The diameter of the stone is c.20mm. Including the iron it stands 25.5mm in length. Weighs 11.89g.
If a man-made object it is unli…

Object type: SOCKETED AXEHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
a Late Bronze Age socketed axehead. It is the blade end only, with the end of the socket visible. Invasive corrosion has caused the loss of the edge of the crescentic blade and some incipient surface pocking (pale and medium green) on otherwise deep brown patinated surfaces. There is some recent grazing, perhaps due to the plough. There is no evidence of deliberate hammer-breakage although fragmentation is a feature of Late Bronze Age hoards. The axehead blade measures 29mm long by 52mm wide, and is 14mm thick, weighing 60g.

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published
A copper-alloy blade fragment, probably dating to the Late Bronze Age. It is possibly from a sword but there is no central thickening or mid-rib, and it is very thin. All the surfaces are lost to pale/mid green invasive corrosion, with additional recent surface grazes, probably from the plough. The side view shows some bending near the break, possibly supporting the deliberate fragmentation as found on sword fragments from Late Bronze Age 'founders' hoards. It is 31mm in length, 34mm wide and 4mm thick, weighing 20g.

Object type: TOY
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Shropshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Fragment of a cast lead alloy toy, probably that of a double sided figurine, of probable post medieval date (1550-1750). The figurine fragment is irregular in plan and sub rectangular in cross section. The sides of the fragment are badly abraded and it is difficult to distinguish the broken edges. The overall design of the piece is that of a figure, not enough remains to be able to identify it as either male or female. Both the two sides have similar, but not identical designs. The overall cast pattern is very detailed and formed from raised curvi-linear ribs and irregular shaped pell…

Object type: SPEARHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
the tip of a Middle Bronze Age spearhead. It is narrow with a pronounced mid-rib, and 14mm of the socket survives into the head. The edges are worn due to invasive corrosion with surfaces also affected, especially on one face. The survivng surfaces are patinated to a deep brown, but elsewhere the spearhead is a pale-medium green. The mid-rib has a relatively angular lozenge-shaped cross-section which suggests a Middle Bronze Age date. It measures 75mm in length, 16mm in width, and is 8mm in thickness, weighing 13g.
It is probably from a side or basal looped spear head.

A copper-alloy composite strap end of medieval circa 14th century date. Rectangular in shape, consisting of two outer sheets, with two copper-alloy rivets through either corner of the attachment end, there was probably a sheet spacer between the outer sheets originally but this no longer survives.
