An incomplete cast copper alloy one-piece “kräftig-profilierte” or 'strongly profiled' brooch of Roman date, probably AD 43 – AD 100. Overall length 57mm, width of wings 20mm, maximum thickness of bow 3.2mm. Weight 10.84g. The brooch can be classified as a one-piece “kräftig-profilierte” type. It has short wings that are slightly concave at rear in order to form a seating for a bilateral spring which is largely missing. Just a stub of the forward projecting claw and one half turn of the spring has survived. Both these feature having been made from the same piece of metal…

A copper-alloy trade weight, probably from the reign of Charles I. The object consists of a small uniface disc measuring 10.7mm in diameter by 2.2mm thick. The upper surface has been stamped with crowned letter "C" at the top, a ring and dot at the centre and, at the bottom, an upright ewer (the mark for London). The weight is 1.73g, which is probably equivalent to a one sixteenth of an ounce: the smallest trade weight in use at the time.

Dupondius or as of uncertain emperor, possibly dupondius of Claudius [RIC 94] Robert Kenyon, following on from the work by the French scholars P-A. Besombes and M. Bompaire (in Trésors Monétaires XXI, 2005), is working through the British examples of Claudian coinage recorded through the PAS assigning many so-called Claudian contemporary copies to Roman auxiliary mints which operated at Lyons (Gaul) and in Spain. This example is a contemporary copy of those minted at the Lyon II, à la Petite Têtemint, mint.

An Iron Age copper alloy object, Dr JD Hill of the British Museum suggests it may possibly be an unusual early Iron Age toggle but can not suggest a parallel, alternatively it may a Roman dumbell toggle (800 – 300BC or 1st – 3rd century AD). The object has been cast to resemble four conjoined spherical beads with flat facets on opposing sides. Each of the ‘beads’ has a small circular pit located centrally on the flat facets. It is possible the pits are holes that are drilled through but have since filled with erosion or dirt. On one of the ‘beads’ on one end, a small se…

A probably Roman copper alloy object possibly a dumbell toggle (1st – 3rd century). The object is a solid cylinder with convex terminals. It has been cast with moulded ribs along the length, there are five in total. The ribs created a beaded appearance. The central rib has two flat facets with traces of iron corrosion present. The iron is probably the remains of the point of attachment. Mid-green patina. Dimensions: length 20.08mm; diameter 7.64mm; weight 4.45g

An early medieval copper alloy disc brooch of backward-looking animal type. It is a small flat disc, 28.16mm in diameter with the surface very worn. It is decorated with a backward-looking animal, surrounded by a border of pellets. The animal has a raised tail, and its four limbs terminate in a two or three-element paw. The face is worn but the eye is ring-like, and the back of the neck is ragged suggesting a mane. The reverse is plain, with a lug and a fragment of the catchplate. A similar brooch from Butley, Suffolk is illustrated in Wilson 1964. There are a number of findspots for …

A Medieval stone (sandstone) decorative carving, Professor Rosemary Cramp suggests it is a fragment of a holy water stoup or piscina(11th-12th century). The fragment is curved and includes the upper finished edge. The internal diameter of the complete object would have measured approximately 60mm and about 30 percent of the total diameter remains. The outer surface has been decorated with carved three-dimensional figures in high relief, the figures represent apostles or saintly figures. Fragments of two figures remain and they are different. Both are bearded with simple lentoid eyes an…
