Seven ceramic wheel-thrown probable Severn Valley base sherds, dating from the 2nd-4th century AD (varied thickness; collective weight: 211.97g). Severn Valley ware has a hard, fine-textured fabric, typically brown or reddish-orange at the surface and sometimes with a grey core (particularly in the thicker parts). An incomplete cast copper-alloy Roman brooch of the Dolphin type. The elements missing are the pin and the majority of the catchplate which has abraded away. The ?semi-circular section bow tapers towards the former foot. There is a single perforation hole through the front of the head. This would presumably have held an axis bar about which the pin would have hinged. Either side of the head are the two side wings, slightly concave on their undersides. Both have been abraded, particularly at their terminals. They are both decorated with a pair of transverse grooves approximately 3.6mm …

A medieval cast copper alloy buckle with integral buckle plate. The buckle frame is double looped; one loop is square, the other semi-circular. The edge of the square loop is a separate piece, probably iron as there is corrosion at the join with the main frame, but not actually visible as there is a copper sheet roller around it. The semicircular loop curves upwards, and the loop itself is angled in towards the pin bar, and decorated with 3 incised grooves at each shoulder. The pin bar itself is again probably iron judging from the corrosion where it is drilled through the frame, but a…

A cast copper-alloy foot fragment from a Roman brooch. From a prominent foot-knob the brooch expands in width into a seemingly flat foot (see notes, below). The knob is divided from the foot by an expanded raised ridge. The triangular element appears to have a raised border within which is a ?flat plain field. The field, however, is perforated with a circular hole; the break occurred at this weak point. This fragment is probably from an Aucissa derivative brooch, possibly a Hod Hill type.
