A cast copper alloy clothes fastener. The object appears to be only part of something. A curved half cylinder of copper alloy plate forms the main part of the artefact; the front surface of this is decorated with a series of parallel criss-cross lines. This design is then frames within a raise line around the edges of the plate. The cylinder shape in wider at one end than the other, it tapers to the thinner end. Post-medieval copper-alloy sword-belt fitting, with suspension loop in which a small copper alloy ring survives. The mount has an oval central lobe, with engraved foliate decoration, with numerous punched annulets in the field. At one end of this is a further smaller sub-circular lobe with central perforation and an incomplete projecting knop at the end. A cast copper alloy double loop oval sword belt hanger.
The frame is complete and has angled outer edges. The suspension loop has been set at a 90° angle to the main body of the sword belt hanger.
The metal has lost most of its original surface and the metal is a mid reddish-brown colour and is pitted.
This type of sword belt hanger dates from circa 1500 - 1650. Parallels for this type of hanger can be seen in Whitehead, 2003, p72.

A cast copper alloy sword belt strap fitting (hooked plate). The plate is ornately moulded with scrolled foliage decoration (now heavily worn). The hook is thickened with a spherical terminal.
The reverse is undecorated. The metal is a dark reddish-brown colour.
Sword belt fittings of this type date to the 16th –17th century.
