Medieval copper alloy strapend, 46mm long and 36mm wide. The strapend. Its overall form is a crescent and it appears to show a pheonix or peacock with its tail feathers diptected using pierced decoration. There are two rivet holes on the rear which contain the remains of rivets.

An Early Medieval (Anglo Saxon) copper alloy strap end (9th century). The strap end is a Class A type with an open end, convex sides and zoomorphic terminal (Thomas 2003:2). There is some damage and the edges of the open end are missing. Within the central panel is carved decoration with inlaid niello. The decoration is curvilinear and possibly Trewhiddle style; corrosion obscures the details. Patchy green patina with a layer of a white substance concreted to the surface. An Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) copper-alloy strap-end of Thomas's Class B, Type 1, with hooked terminal. (AD720-850). The triangular split attachment end has two rivet holes arranged parallel to the end; the rivets are now missing. The body of the strap-end is decorated with bands of transverse incised lines. The decoration terminates in a very stylised animal head consisting of four pointed-oval shapes arranged as a diagonal cross; below this is the backward-turning hook. Mid-pale green patina.
