Object type: BRIDLE BIT
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper alloy derivative three-link type bridle bit, probably dating to the Iron Age between 500 BCAD 43 (length: 73mm; width at loop: 13.3mm; thickness at centre: 11.3mm; weight: unknown). The artefact consists of a slightly curved square-sectioned bar with a protruding collar in the centre, which has two incised lines to either side. At both ends, the looped terminals are broken, although one is more complete than the other. The fitting is worn but in fair condition with small areas of bronze disease at the collar. The artefact has been coated in a material.
