Device of "A pelican in her piety", i.e., a female pelican, here perching on the edge of her nest, pecking at her breast in order to draw the blood with which she feeds her three chicks, beaks agape, in the nest below. The nest rests at the top of a tree, which is indicated by its trunk and five slender branches. Incomplete cast copper alloy heraldic shield-shaped mount of medieval, thirteenth or fourteenth century date (AD 1200 - AD 1400), probably from a bridle bit. Length 44mm, width 37mm and 4mm thick. Weight 13.43g. The shield is 22mm in length and 19mm in width. Viewing the mount in plan, it has two integral curving appendages which project outwards from the left hand side.
