Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Somewhat elaborate conical weight with oval base, composed of five brass and five bronze segments plus the top segment which includes a small hook for suspension. The central rivet that held all the segments together was most probably made from iron.
It is uncertain whether or not this was a weight, but it might be possible that, if the rivet was longer originally, segments could be added or taken away according to how light or heavy the weight was needed to be.

Object type: CANDLE SNUFFER
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
18th century cast cu-alloy candle snuffer, broken. One of its legs is missing; the other is complete except for the decorative moulding just above the loop. The box section which captures the cut-off wick is undamaged. One of the three legs is still in place, the other two missing; with all three legs the snuffer would have been allowed to stand trivet-fashion.
Similar to an example in Lindsey (1927:159, Fig 40), no.B, dated to the late 18th and early 19th century.
