A well-preserved medieval cast copper-alloy purse hanger. A three arched example with a central inverted keyhole-shaped opening flanked by a pair of open semicircles. The two prongs at the top echo the cusps in the external angles between the arches. The ends feature collared expanded terminals. Purse hangers were freely swinging, held at each end, usually by a bar mount, to a girdle. When they were not used to attach purses to belts such objects were often used to attach knives.
