A cast copper-alloy side from a spur, formed from a D-section rod of copper alloy, which tapers to a terminal consisting of two small loops one above the other, shaped like a figure of eight. The metal is a dark reddish-brown colour, with most of the original smooth surface surviving. The break at the opposite end to the loops looks well worn. The object is post-medieval in date circa 1570 - 1700. A parallel can be seen in Whitehead, 2003, pages: 81 ref: 504.

An incomplete Roman brooch. The brooch has been cast in copper alloy. All that survives of the brooch is the long, slender bow. The bow is usually large for a Roman brooch. The bow resembles a Roman knee brooch, where the bow bends outwards, before tapering inwards to the foot of the brooch. Below this bend there is a transverse ridge. The foot of the brooch is then straight and tapers to the foot proper. Neither the head nor the catchplate survive. The pin is also missing. The bow is 67.9mm in length. The metal is very worn and very corroded. The surface is pitted. The metal has a dar…

A cast lead ampulla. Ampullae were an important kind of pilgrim souvenir in the medieval period. They were designed to contain a dose of thaumaturgic water, which would have been given to the pilgrims at the shrines and holy wells. This example dates to between c. 1350-1530.
Almost all of the ampulla survives; only part of the rim has been slightly damaged and therefore some of the rim is missing. Also, one of the lugs has broken off the side of the ampulla. This ampulla has a Type II scallop-shell design. Type II scallop-shell designs resemble the common cockle, with fine grooves a…
