Incomplete and slightly damaged "toy" cannon of probable eighteenth or nineteenth century date. Length 55mm. Weight 21.25g. The toy is described as if it were a functioning cannon: The cascabel (or cascable) is simple and the button is broken and missing. The base ring is 11mm in diameter. The vent field is 4mm in length with a maximum diameter of 11mm and the vent, sometimes referred to as the "touch-hole" is about 2.5mm in diameter. An elaborate cast copper alloy Anglo-Scandinavian cheek piece fragment, dating to the 11th century. The decoration on the fitting has been inspired by the characteristic 11th century style of engraving known as Ringerike-style. The design could represent a beast, with its nose at the apex as drawn. A 6th or 5th century BC Iron Age brooch of Hull and Hawkes Group L type (1987). A British brooch dating from about 600-400 BC. It is made of copper alloy and was probably cast using the ‘lost-wax’ process. The brooch is missing its iron spring, but is otherwise well-preserved. The main part of the brooch, called the ‘bow’, is highly arched when viewed from the side but has a hollow reverse. Decorative cast copper alloy terminal, with six faces longitudinally and rounded distal end surmounted by a circular knop. The flat proximal end has a width-wise slot set into it, containing what appears to be iron. It is decorated (from proximal to distal end) with two incised lines followed by three deeper grooves, then groups of three of four diagonal incised lines and four diagonal grooves giving the distal end a twisted appearance. Medieval. Length 19.53mm, width c.9mm, thickness c.7mm, weight 4.93g.
