An extremely worn and fragmentary copper-alloy object, W-shaped with old breaks on all edges, measuring 22mm in width and 10mm in length. One face has traces of decoration consisting of longitudinal grooves of different lengths. The identification of this object is uncertain, there is a possiblity that it could be a fragment of the base of an Anglo-Saxon girdle hanger, however, due to its wear and a fragmetary nature this cannot be proved conclusively.

An incomplete copper-alloy cast unidentified object. Curvilinear with a oval shaped cross-section, measuring 31mm in length and 10mm in width. It has one complete terminal which is moulded to presumably represent an animals head, with oval shaped bulbous eyes, triangular shaped ears laid flat against the head and a flat ended snout. The object becomes thinner towards the incomplete terminal end. No parallel could be found for this object although its style is slightly romanesque and reminescent of medieval swivels. It is therefore likely to be medieval in date.

An iron corroded and worn whittle tang knife. This knife has a a worn blade, with a straight upper edge and a curved lower cutting edge. It measures 74mm in total length and 23mm in width. It has a bolster, that is an integral thickening of the iron between the blade and the tang, and beyond this is the tang which would have been inserted into the now missing handle. The presence of the bolster dates this knife to the mid 16th-17th centuries as it was an innovation in hafting introduced about the middle of the 16th century (Margeson 1993, 130-131, fig 96).

Copper alloy, circular, uniface coin weight. This weight is for a Gros Tournois, a royal French coin used in the later 13th century and for most of the 14th century. The design shows a stylised temple of St. Martin, the saint of Tours. These tournois were officially copied by many other issuing authorities in the Low Countries and in the territory of present-day Germany. The only uncertainty here seems to be the legend, which does not appear to be the standard TVRONVS CIVIS but rather L DENER [ ].

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A worn but complete copper-alloy buckle, with an oval shaped frame, in situ pin and triangular shaped plate. It has a reddish brown covering of corrosion and patches of light green can be seen beneath this, despite this the buckle is more likely to be copper-alloy than iron as it does not attact a magnet. It measures 36.4mm in total length and 26.4mm in width, across the frame. The frame has an expanded outer edge and the bar narrows, it is no longer clear, due to wear and corrosion whether the frame was offset. The plate is folded sheet and has a rectangular pin slot.
