A complete copper-alloy Late Iron Age/Roman cosmetic mortar. This mortar is small and chunky and in good condition. The bow is crescent shaped with a central longitudinal groove, it measures 47mm in length, 11mm in width and 8mm in thickness at its thickest point. The groove measures 3mm in depth at its deepest central point. This mortar has an integral end loop. This is formed by curving one end of the bow round and down and then soldering its flattened terminal to the underside of the bow. The loop measures 10.5mm in external diameter and 5mm in internal diameter. …

Traces of white metal coating on the spring case and minute traces of possible gilding on the bow. Very worn copper alloy finger-ring, possibly Roman. Most of the patina is missing, but it appears to be divided into a number of cells with in incised vertical line. The cells are decorated with one or two horizontal incised lines. It is flat in section (less than 0.5mm thick) and 17mm in diameter.

Central lobe of a bar mount; the terminal lobes are broken off. It has a complete single integral rivet and a small piece of the fixing plate still attached. Cast in copper alloy, what remains is 13mm in length and 12 mm wide. The centre of the lobe is decorated with three embossed ribs. This type of find is a common find and many are documented. Sometimes the bar mount is attached to the strapend of which it formed part. It is medieval in date. Refs. Read, B., 1995, History Beneath our Feet, pg. 68-69.

A complete cast copper-alloy hookpiece from a Anglo-Saxon sleeve or wrist clasp of Hines Class B12 (Hines 1993, 46-49). This hookpiece is formed of a bar alone, this bar is measures 27mm in length and 17mm in total width, it is rectangular in shape with a shaped rear edge opposite a projecting hook-element. The integral cast hook-element projects from the centre of the front edge. It is rectangular in shape and measures 12mm in length by 4mm in width externally and 5mm in length and 2.5mm in width internally. This hole would have accomodated the catch element of the …

Fragment of copper alloy ?Middle Bronze Age tanged ?knife. The tang is broken across a rivet hole (ancient break). The tang is flat in section and 14mm wide. A 13mm length of it survives. The blade is pointed-oval in section and narrows suddenly from 17mm wide shoulders. At the ancient break (38mm from the tang) the blade is incredibly narrow and 4mm wide. The object is worn but basically retains its shape. The blade edges are chamfered. Length of fragment 51mm.
