This is a large fragment of a neatly-made casting with back rivets and openwork effects, probably for an early mediaeval leather belt. It has taken the form of an S-shape, the long terminals of the letter closed against the extended central section. The existing length is 37mm but another 16 must be added to the estimate of the full original length if the pattern was symmetrical end to end. Cast copper alloy seal matrix. The seal has a circular flat face with a hexagonal facetted conical handle. Suspension loop at top. In the centre of the face is a lion rampant right (left when reversed). The inscription is religious and reads *SVM/LEO/FORTIS, meaning 'I am a strong Lion'.

A bronze finial or terminal. It is 19mm tall from base to top. It is crowned by a small ball 4mm high and 6 in diameter: below this is a picher-shaped or barrel-shaped element which is biconical or carinated, reaching 11mm diameter over 11mm height. The lower flan or base of the object is 3mm deep and 13.5mm in diameter. On the underside, which is flat, there are iron corrosion products suggesting that this was the terminal to a tang or other extension made of iron, onto which it was fastened.
