Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Published
Oval buckle frame with ornate outside edge and offset narrowed bar with constriction for (missing) pin. The ornate edge comprises two main knops with an incised line at each extremity creating angular knops. Two more incised lines at the mid point (one of which is used as the constriction) create a middle. The metal has a silvery appearance. No exact parallel in Egan's Dress Accessories - the ornate edge is somewhat flatter and less obtrusive than these examples, although it is undoubtedly of the same type. 14th century.
