Copper alloy figure, 44mm high and 18mm wide. The figure is a representation of the Virgin and was made at Limoges in Central France sometime bewteen 1180 and 1250. The figure would have originally been attached to a box as part of a set of holy figures. The head is solid but flattened at the back and the figure is hollow to allow for this. There is one large fixing hole towards the bottom of the figure. This would originally been in the centre, but the lower half of the figure is missing. The face is very simply worked with two large circles for eyes. It has lost its nose and no mouth…
