Lower Palaeolithic, chert handaxe. This is a 'ficron' type handaxe which belongs to the Middle Acheulian tradition. The axe is sub-triangular in plan, with slightly concave sides and a rounded butt, the tip is truncated. There are multiple flaking scars on both the dorsal and ventral sides consisting of large flake removal on the main body of the piece and slightly finer flake removal along the edges. 5% cortex still remaining on the ventral side. This is a core rejuvenation flake, at the top of the dorsal is remnants of a prepared platform with multiple short, direct flaking scars. The rest of the surface is covered in long, thin flaking scars the have been removed from one angle, the ventral side has a large bulb of percussion. Dark brownish grey flint with lighter brown patches, light grey patina forming.

Scraper on a flake, this has semi abrupt, direct retouch that has formed a curved working edge that runs up the left side and around the forward edge. Large bulb of percussion on the ventral. A light grey patina has formed over the flint, the retouch has removed the patina exposing the mid brown flint underneath.

Within the cup of the bell shape is a tall conical protruding boss with a central dimple. On the back of the copper alloy mount is a rearward projecting rectangular iron pin.
