TREASURE CASE : 2007 T295 The pre-conservation state of the palstaves meant that the clayey soil adhering to the surfaces may have obscured more detailed typological features. A complete copper alloy knife handle of post-medieval date, circa AD 1756 - 1763.The handle is comprised of two sub-rectangular strips of metal each with one flared end. The opposite ends are riveted together with a small broken and worn piece of iron retained between the two plates. This is presumably the remains of the knife blade. The outer surface of both plates bear clear inscriptions which read: "I SAY FOREVER HUS A // SUCCESS TO THE KING OF PRUSSIA". "HUS A" is possibly an alternative form of the exclamation "Huzzah". A complete copper alloy strap fitting of post-medieval date. The fitting is a sword belt mount and is curvilinear in plan tapering to a curved, forward facing hook with knoped terminal. The mount is decorated with a series of incised curved lines spanning outwards from the centre resulting in a foliate pattern. Two rivet holes for attachment are present orientated on the longitudinal axis of the mount and both are filled with iron corrosion. The reverse of the fitting is flat and undecorated. A complete copper alloy buckle of medieval date. The buckle comprises a single circular loop frame with a projecting lip on the outer edge. An integral forked spacer projects from the opposite side of the frame flanking a narrowed bar for the pin. The pin remains. Two sheet plates are affixed to the spacer and are held in place by a single rivet at the end further from the buckle proper. The metal has a mid brownish-green patina and is worn. An incomplete copper alloy chisel or awl of Bronze Age date. The tang is square in section and tapers in both width and thickness to a rounded point. At the widest part of the tang there is an integral stop ridge which is broken and heavily worn though appears to have been rectangular in plan. An incomplete Roman copper-alloy circular Disc brooch. The central, circular setting is missing and is surrounded by an intact and raised copper-alloy flange. At the centre of the central recess there is a copper-alloy concentric moulding or dimple and there are traces of enamel of indeterminate colour surviving. There is a raised copper-alloy raised border at the outer edge and in the area between these borders there are curving stamps with traces of gilding surving. The pierced D-shaped lug would have held the missing sprung pin. The short, deep catchplate is bent and has a return.

The flat, straight-sided bow tapers to the very narrow and pointed foot and is decorated with a column of close-set square and rectangular stamps down each outer edge.
