An incomplete copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill type (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 4. j, flat wing ends type). Roman date (AD 140 to 250). Approximately 75% of the brooch is present, consisting of the head, bow, wings, catchplate. The spring, pin and foot are missing, presumed lost in antiquity. An incomplete copper alloy unusual Aesica brooch, of Early Roman dating (AD 43-65). Around 75% of the brooch is present, consisting of the back plate, lozenge boss, upper bow, a wing and an incomplete spring casing. The spring and pin are missing presumed lost in antiquity. The brooch is composite, being made of three separate parts: a back plate, a lozenge boss and the upper bow. The back plate is irregular in shape. A Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth Group 4, flat wing ends type), Mackreth 2011, 4.b-c. Plate 46, dating AD c. 80-120. The brooch is copper alloy and incomplete. The wings are semi-cylindrical terminating with incomplete perforated wing caps. The wings are undecorated. At the junction of the wings and bow head has the remains of an integral hook. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman Colchester Derivative brooch, probably dating to the 1st/ 2nd century AD (length: 27mm; width at wings: 18.5mm; thickness/ depth: 7.5mm; weight: 3.3g). The brooch is T-shaped in plan and mostly flat in side section (particularly down the bow). Copper alloy Roman Polden Hill brooch of flat wing ends type. Straight curved bow with sprung mechanism and short wings to top. Foot and pin missing. Similar to Hattatt '380' from Petersfield, Hampshire.. Mouldings along whole length of bow, hook for chord and very deep appendage meeting top of catch-plate. Wings plain except for end ribs, bow decorated with rib and fifteen short raised ribs placed laterally at alternate angles. The foot-knob is relatively ornate with a groove and ribs, as well as small projection underneath.
